Voices of Gratitude: Scholars Share How Childhope Helped Them Grow

The voices of Childhope scholars reflect stories of growth, confidence, and gratitude brought forth by the support they received. Each scholar shared their personal journey, underscoring how Childhope’s programs have been instrumental in making their educational dreams possible.

[Growing up shy and coming from poverty, I never imagined I would make it to college graduation. But with the help of Childhope, along with the donors and supporters, I was given the chance to study and slowly build my self-confidence. Their support wasn’t just financial—they also taught me to dream, believe in myself, and to give hope to others.]

— Eunice, Childhope Scholar

[Becoming a scholar and receiving various programs from Childhope PH has been one of the greatest blessings and opportunities of my life. These programs became my bridge toward slowly achieving my dreams despite life’s challenges and hardships. They didn’t just help me with my education; they also taught me the value of discipline, perseverance, and believing in my own abilities. Today, I am a degree holder—a result of the care, support, and compassion shared by Childhope, their donors, and the mentors who have been part of my journey.]

— Arvin, Childhope Scholar

[I am deeply grateful to the donors and supporters of Childhope. Because of you, I’ve been able to overcome the financial challenges of my education bit by bit. I will continue to work hard in my studies, not just for my own future, but so that one day I can also help children like me who have experienced the struggles of life on the streets.]

How Childhope Brings Education Within Reach for Street Children

Childhope Philippines’ commitment to education is deeply embodied in its innovative and comprehensive education programs designed for street children in Metro Manila. The organization’s goal is to break down barriers to learning and create pathways for long-term personal and community growth.

The flagship Street Education Program (STEP) operates on the principle of “education without borders,” delivering Alternative Learning System classes right on the streets. The program’s KalyEskwela initiative uses mobile vans equipped with audiovisual tools to bring lessons directly to the children who may never attend formal schools otherwise. Apart from literacy and numeracy, street educators also provide psychosocial support, health services, and skills training to foster holistic development.

Childhope Philippines’ Programs and Projects

Childhope Philippines offers a variety of programs that support street children beyond academics, including health services, legal assistance, and livelihood training. These projects work hand-in-hand to ensure children’s basic needs are met and help facilitate their entry or return to the formal education system.

Street Education Program

The STEP project focuses primarily on providing quality education access for children living and working in the urban street environment. It uses mobile classrooms and trained street educators to conduct learning sessions accredited by the Department of Education. Besides foundational education, the program includes trade and technical skills training to help older youth gain economic independence.

By making education accessible through tailored programs and innovative approaches, Childhope Philippines is opening doors that once seemed firmly closed to street children. These initiatives offer more than just academic learning; they build foundational skills and life-changing opportunities that help break the cycle of poverty. Through continued community engagement and dedicated support, Childhope stands firm in its commitment to nurture the potential of each child, ensuring that education becomes a pathway to lasting change and empowerment.
